What can I expect on the day?

No hanging around waiting, as your time allotted is just for you. You'll get a safety briefing and then tuition on how to control and pilot the craft before being let loose on your 60 minutes of hovercrafting. If you want to bring along a partner and/or friends to share your flying time, then no problem, the choice is yours.
To pilot these unusual craft you'll be positioned in a kneeling position so you can use your weight to shift and control where your hovercraft is going. A good sense of balance and a little forward thinking helps, because a hovercraft has just a throttle and rudder - there are no brakes!

Once you've got the hang of the basic controls of air-cushioned travel, you head off on the hovercraft course. The course is not just a flat piece of airfield land; it has some rather interesting large dips (World War 2 bomb craters) to fly through and around a bendy slalom course. After a while you will be getting a feel for the craft and being able to fling it into (and out of) craters and corners with great slides, all to get that great buzz of floating on a cushion of air.

These hovercrafting experiences take place on the edge of an airfield conveniently located by the edge of the A14, so access to the site is very easy.

What's included in this experience?

  • Experiences begin with a meet and greet session with your pilot as well as a safety and instruction briefing. The experience will give one to one instruction before kneeling inside the craft to try it out for yourself. Safety helmets are provided.  You will be the only person in the hovercraft; instructors will monitor you from the edge of the course.  Please allow for one hour at the venue. On rare occasions there may be one other hovercraft on the circuit with you at the time.

When is it available?

  • Experiences are available on selected dates, on both weekday and weekend dates throughout the year.

Where can I do this experience?

  • Hovercraft experiences take place at Bury St Edmunds

Who is this suitable for?

  • There is a minimum age of 15 years to fly a hovercraft. The maximum weight limit is 20 stone. A good reasonable level of fitness is required. All the necessary protective clothing is provided. You should wear comfortable clothing and long trousers as you'll be kneeling down in the vehicle. Please note this is an outdoor activity so waterproof clothing is recommended.

  • Friends and family are welcome
  • Please note there are toilets on site, and refreshments can be made available.
